NEW DRUMMER FOR TIGERTAILZ

Tigertailz are delighted to announce that ROBIN GUY will be joining the band on drums for the next run of shows.

It's too soon to say whether this will become a permanent arrangement - but we wanted to give you an update on the present situation as soon as practicable.

We held lengthy auditions with Robin over the weekend and - what can we say - he's a force of nature, an absolutely astounding talent that will surely take our sound to a whole new level. We played songs from all the main Tigertailz studio albums and despite the fact that it was hotter than a sauna in that practice room, it all sounded amazing!

Robin's CV is breathtaking and reads like a rock n'roll who's who. He spent five years performing and recording with Rachel Stamp, and since then has played with Bruce Dickinson, Faith No More, Dee Snider, Lars Frederiksen (Rancid), Joss Stone, Casey Chaos (Amen) and most recently GMT (featuring Bernie Torme and John McCoy).

Obviously what any band wants in the long-term is stability, but with some big shows coming up very soon, an equal and immediate priority is to get ourselves not only ready but - if possible - better than we've ever been before. With Robin behind the kit, that's a very real possibility. Where it goes from there we will see - but Robin's up for it, we're up for it, so let's 'ave it!

 

It’ll be done with ‘Mirrors’ down @ The Dickens Bar!!

Mirrors, a Tech Metal Band from Rotherham, South Yorkshire are having an E.P. launch show on the 17th September, 2010 @ The Dickens Bar, Rotherham.

The night kicks off at 7.30 with a club night afterwards with Metal & Rock in 1 room and Dubstep in the other until 2am. There will be a showcase of localish Metal bands playing the event as well as some clothing companies coming down.

NEW GLOBAL ONLINE TALENT CONTEST FOR UNSIGNED ARTISTS

With only weeks until the new series of X Factor hits our screens, a new global online talent contest has been launched which aims to give hope to the millions of wannabe singers and artists that have not made it past Simon Cowell and co. Instant Fame and Wealth offers cash prizes to music clips that attract the most votes on Payperclip, a self-service online recording label.

Payperclip, which launched two years ago, allows any artist to upload and to sell their music and video direct to a global audience without need for a recording contract or other endorsement.

Commenting on the launch of the contest, Payperclip CEO, Paul Taylor, noted, “Over 99% of all musicians and artists remain unsigned and find it virtually impossible to promote themselves – profitably - to a global audience. OZZFEST Returns to the UK again !!!

The legendary touring behemoth that is Ozzfest is set to hit the UK with a one-off date at London's O2 Arena on September 18 2010. Ozzy Osbourne will be accompanied on the main stage by Korn, Murderdolls and Skindred, plus a special guest TBC, with more acts still to be announced for the second stage. In addition to the music on offer, Ozzy and co will take over the entire O2 complex, offering up a Village Of The Damned, with fairground rides, stalls and tattooists.

The 2010 package will be the first UK Ozzfest show in over five years, and is also the first time the O2 features a general admission format on the lower bowl; GA ticket holders will be able to choose between watching the show from seats, or the specially enlarged standing area. Top level tickets will also be available offering the usual seating.

Flying in from Bakerfield, USA, the multi-million selling, Grammy Award-winning Korn will be showcasing new material from their forthcoming new album, "Korn III - Remember Who You Are".

"We're extremely excited to be playing Ozzfest in Europe" comments guitarist MUNKY. "Ozzy is an absolute legend, mentor, and dear friend of mine, so it's always an honour to perform on the same bill as him. We can't wait!"

Phoenix Rises From The Ashes of Argent

11/23/2009 - Philadelphia, PA - one of rock's lost classic band's Phoenix, featuring ex-Argent members John Verity, Bob Henrit and Jim Rodford, rises once again with a CD release by premier reissue label Renaissance Records, in conjunction with itsaboutmusic.com. A power trio with a style akin to Grand Funk, Boston, Starcastle and Argent, the short-lived band released two critically acclaimed albums 'Phoenix' and 'In Full View'. Both albums have been painstakingly remastered from the master tapes to insure ultimate sound quality, making this the definitive CD reissue (both albums are available on one CD).

In 1973 Rod Argent was looking for new lead vocalist for Argent following the departure of Russ Ballard. John Verity eventually joined Argent later that year and there followed a period of intense recording and touring until the band decided to retire from the road in 1976. It was during Argent's final tour of America that lead vocalist/ guitarist John Verity, drummer Bob Henrit, and bassist Jim Rodford decided to form a new band. The Argent split was amicable and out of its ashes arose Phoenix. A management deal was struck with Trident in London, who also had a studio in London's West End where many major artists recorded, including The Beatles. "Our intrepid 'Power Trio' was very soon burning the midnight oil, recording tracks for their first album; now under the watchful eye of CBS Records," recalled Verity.

The new band was orginally to be called 'H.R.V' - Henrit, Rodford, Verity. The album title was to be along the lines of: 'HRV like a Phoenix rising from the ashes of Argent' but the record company and the media soon latched onto the name 'Phoenix' so the band quickly changed the name. The album was released in 1976 and the band was soon touring Europe as special guests to headliners 'Aerosmith'. A second album recorded for CBS remains unreleased although a couple of singles, including a version of 'Time of the Season', were issued. 'In Full View' was the third and final Phoenix album recorded for Charisma Records without Jim Rodford who had left to join The Kinks. At this time the band also recorded a number of Russ Ballard songs including the original version of 'I Surrender', which subsequently became a hit for Rainbow.

Phoenix eventually turned into the band Charlie for one album on RCA records: 'Good Morning America' before Bob joined Jim in The Kinks and John Verity turned to record production and working on a solo album: 'Interrupted Journey' which featured Bob Henrit on drums. Never far apart, the pair were soon working together playing heavy blues/rock as the John Verity Band. Since then, in addition to his work with the Band, John has been gigging and working in recording studios throughout the world, producing, playing guitar, or singing with acts including Motorhead, Tank, Ringo Starr, Russ Ballard, Colin Blunstone, Mike Berry, Dave Berry, Brian Connolly, John Parr, John Coghlan, The Searchers, Mike Rutherford (of Genesis), Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, Zombies, and Michael Schenker - just to mention a few...

Phoenix - s/t and 'In Full View' CD will be available from Amazon, iTunes and your local retailer on November 10th. Bronz the band were one of the first British Rock acts ( N.W.B.H.M.) New Wave of British Heavy Metal, to hit America in the mid 80’s, touring their début album “ Taken By Storm ”. Fronted at that time by Max Bacon on lead vocals and playing to 30,000 seater stadiums. The first album went on to sell well over 200,000 albums worldwide. Which all helped to secure them a solid reputation as a British hard rock band to be reckoned with.

The single “ Send Down An Angel ” featured heavily on the then fledgling M.T.V. in America and across Europe, with a video featuring the actress Emma Thompson.

Reaching a top 10 position in the U.K. rock singles charts and a top 20 in the rock album charts.

Despite the sudden demise of the original line up, founder member Shaun Kirkpatrick found himself in a very enviable position. With top producer Max Norman (Ozzy Ozbourne’s producer) and full record company backing set out to completely re-define the sound of the band, and with an exciting new line up record the bands official second album.

Recorded in London’s “ Roundhouse ” and “ Power Plant ” studios.

To rock and rollers around the globe, the legendary Steve Conte is probably best known as the lead guitarist, songwriter/and backing vocalist in the New York Dolls. Conte is also the lead singer, songwriter and guitarist for a raft of other bands including Crown Jewels, The Contes, and his latest incarnation - Steve Conte & The Crazy Truth.
Sonically, The Crazy Truth lies somewhere between garage rock and punk blues with hints of Latin-soul in a dark, smoky lounge. It's the Stooges and the Stones versus Morphine and Tom Waits. The vibe is best described by Conte as "classic roots with a modern twist."

Steve Conte delivers the power, soul and raunch. He's a runaway guitar hero on the edge of falling apart - with the voice of a derelict angel. Drummer Phil Stewart is equal parts Max Roach and Keith Moon while bassist Leeko was weaned on The Clash and old school reggae. Says Conte, "This album sounds like a band playing live because it's drums, bass and guitar together in one room, solos recorded live on the basic tracks, rough and tough. It was like doing a gig. I love playing live with this band because it's all about interplay and the moment. We don't just deliver the songs...we JAM!"

Lyrically, the songs reflect two decades of life and excess in New York City...the distractions troubled souls move toward to fill the emptiness. Dive bars, gambling, sex and drugs. It's all there, but not celebrated with the traditional macho rock attitude. It's more about redemption.
On The Truth Ain't Pretty, Conte sings, "I'm always putting the last things first, that's why I'm starting out with the second verse," while on The Goods Are Odd he croons "Drag queens, drama queens, future ex-porn stars, we're all looking for lovers with beautiful scars."

Whether he's the morally bankrupt guy "coming downtown in a Gypsy Cab" (from the standout track Gypsy Cab) or riding a Busload of Hope to Atlantic City, Conte offers a sense of optimism in the song This Is The End - "In the end we transcend - we're divine".
Special guests on the album includes David Johansen (New York Dolls) on harmonica, Catherine Russell (David Bowie) and Nicki Richards (Madonna) on backing vocals, plus Danny Ray (Sylvain Sylvain/Johnny Thunders), Kiku Collins (Beyonce) Tom Timko (Stevie Wonder) on horns.
The album was mixed by the legendary Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Keith Richards) and mastered by Richard Dodd (Tom Petty, Green Day).

 

Wim den Boer July 10, 1965 ~ September 3, 2009

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Wim den Boer, bassist with The Cotton Soeterboek Band, passed away September 3, 2009 from a heart attack. Wim den Boer was a gifted musician, performer and a consummate bass player. Wim started his career in Reinforced Concrete and later on in Aggressor. He was one of the founding members of Abyss and later joined Jeff & Co, with whom he recorded several successful albums for in Holland.

Wim joined The Cotton Soeterboek Band in 2006, as well as playing with Silver Dollar and Four 4 The Road. Statement from the band: "Words are not enough to describe the loss we feel with Wim's passing. He was so happy with the recent birth's of Amy and Daisy, spending time with his family, and looking forward to start recording the new album this month. We are devastated at the loss of our friend and brother. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of need." Wim is survived by his wife Marja, his son Leslie and his twin daughters Amy and Daisy.

THE BLACK CROWES will release their new studio CD, Before the Frost... on 31st August 2009.

A second album, titled …Until The Freeze, will be given away for free exclusively through a unique download code which is included in Before The Frost… as a “thank you” to their fans for two decades of continued support.

Before the Frost..., and its corresponding free album …Until The Freeze, were recorded over a series of five nights at Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. Although both are studio albums, all the new material was performed and recorded in front of an intimate audience of the band’s fans, making them a part of The Black Crowes musical history.

The innovative technique of inviting fans into the studio to become part of the process during recording is a rare experience.

Before the Frost... features eleven new and previously unreleased Black Crowes songs including Good Morning Captain, I Ain’t Hiding, Been a Long Time (Waiting on Love), and other original songs that will serve to spotlight the bands ability to make emotional connections through their music. The free album …Until The Freeze is a nine-song collection featuring eight new original Black Crowes songs plus a cover version of the Stephen Stills classic So Many Times.
