Brazilian Andre Matos (Viper/Angra) is without doubt one of the most charismatic and versatile vocalists on the international rock/metal scene. His voice is unmistakable, his talent for composition beyond all doubt. The newly formed Andre Matos Band are releasing their debut album “Time To Be Free” through SPV on 25th February 2008.

The album was produced by Roy Z (Judas Priest, Bruce Dickinson, Helloween, among others) and Sascha Paeth (Edguy, Kamelot, Rhapsody) in Brazil, Germany and the US.

“Time To Be Free” was first released in Japan in October 2007 and reached number 2 in the Japanese chart, staying at the 2nd spot for a month and beating artists such as Metallica and Heaven & Hell. The 11-track album features brand new songs, great artwork, an awesome band and a great team of producers.

Matos (vocals and piano) was supported by truly excellent musicians: His solo band includes the renowned trio consisting of Luis Mariutti (bass), Hugo Mariutti (guitar) and Fabio Ribeiro (keyboards) – all of them former members of Angra and Shaman – plus guitarist “Zaza” Hernandes, with whom Matos worked in the early Nineties and who is considered one of Brazil’s best guitarists, as well as Eloy Casagrande, a 16-year-old drum talent who came first at the Modern Drummer competition in the US.

In the late Eighties, Matos formed the band Viper, followed by top-selling act Angra, which he launched in 1991. From 1992 to 1999 with Matos as their frontman, Angra released three internationally successful albums, four EPs and embarked on sensational tours around the globe. Following his departure, he formed Shaman, simultaneously proving himself to be a multi-faceted musician, who also cuts a fine figure away from heavy metal, alongside guitarist/producer Sascha Paeth in their Virgo project. Now his solo debut, Time To Be Free confirms his unusual vocal range and underlines the fact that Matos has matured in every respect.

UFO “SHOWTIME” ON HD-DVD

Steamhammer/SPV release UFO’s first DVD “Showtime” on state-of-the-art HD-DVD on 25th February 2008.

This entertaining two-DVD set features UFO’s concert filmed in Wilhelmshaven Pumpwerk, German on 13th May 2005 and the 16 live songs span much of UFO’s lengthy career. The inclusion of a six song, live session filmed in Peppermint Park Studios, on May 26, 2005 gives fans a whopping 22 UFO classics to enjoy.

This High Definition release is not only outstanding in the quality of the images and audio, it also features additional bonus material that was not included in the original release, such as ‘picture-in-picture’ interviews and ‘on the fly’ menus, which can be operated while viewing the film.

The many bonus features include a ‘making of the DVD’ piece, interviews with the band and crew members, slideshow, discography, a making of studio songs feature, footage from Rockboat performance and footage from the band’s 2004 US tour.

This current line-up (which reads like a who’s who of rock) features original band members: singer Phil Mogg, bassist Pete Way, guitarist Paul Raymond. They are joined by American guitar virtuoso, Vinnie Moore, and Jason Bonham, who while best known for being son on legendary Led Zeppelin drummer, John Bonham, has proved his credentials by playing with such rock luminaries as: Paul Rodgers (ex-Free, Bad Company), Slash (Guns N’ Roses), Ritchie Sambora (Bon Jovi) and Jeff Beck, as well as Led Zeppelin themselves at their 2007 reunion.

MAGNUM – “WINGS OF HEAVEN LIVE”

Magnum’s “Wings of Heaven Live” will be released by SPV on 25th February 2008, 20 years after Wings of Heaven’s original release in 1998, when it reached number 2 in the UK album charts and spawned three top-30 singles.

“Wings of Heaven Live” was recorded during Magnum’s 7-date UK tour in November 2007, which was the first time the seminal Magnum work had been performed in its entirety. In addition to the live rendition of Wings of Heaven, the 2-CD set also comprises many classic Magnum tracks from their extensive back catalogue interspersed with tracks from their latest album, “Princess Alice and the Broken Arrow”, released earlier in 2007 by SPV.

The band is comprised of: Tony Clarkin (Guitar and Vocals), Bob Catley (Vocals), Mark Stanway (Keyboards), Al Barrow (Bass Guitar and Vocals) and Jimmy Copley – Drums.

Formed in 1972, Magnum first tasted chart success in 1982 when Chase the Dragon hit No. 17 in the UK chart. Their 1985 album On A Storyteller's Night went Gold and featured the classic single "Just Like An Arrow". This success continued in the following years with the Roger Taylor-produced Vigilante in 1986; the Top 5, Wings Of Heaven in 1988, which spawned three Top 40 singles; and the Keith Olsen produced Goodnight LA, which reached no. 9 in the UK album charts in 1990.

New Double DVD: "Live Over Europe"
Including an “Official Bootleg DVD”

SPV Records release Axel Rudi Pell Live Over Europe a double DVD on 25th February in celebration of Pell’s outstanding show at the Rock Hard Festival in 2007. The 75-minute concert features the Axel Rudi Pell Band performing haunting versions of classic tracks, including ‘Strong As A Rock’, ‘Tear Down The Walls’, ‘Mystica’, ‘Rock The Nation’ and ‘Fool Fool’. The band line-up is Axel Rudi Pell (lead, rhythm & acoustic guitars); Johnny Gioeli (lead & backing vocals); Ferdy Doernberg (keyboards); Volker Krawczak (bass) and Mike Terrana (drums and percussion).

The bonus Official Bootleg DVD contains material featuring select footage from 2004 to 2006. This material, taken from Pell’s private vaults, includes from 2005: Wacken Open Air and Bang Your Head Festivals, the 2004 Sweden Rock Festival and shows in the UK, Belgium and Switzerland, as well as unique footage from his local club, the Zeche in Bochum.

With a total playing time of over three and a half hours, Live Over Europe is a comprehensive document highlighting the impressive live qualities of a band who have a few things up their sleeve for next year. Says Pell: “There will be a new studio album in 2008, plus a number of festival shows, and a headliner tour in the autumn.” That’s all he’s prepared to give away at this point, so we’ll just have to wait and see.
