Interviewer: Glenn Milligan, BA Hons CS (via e-mail)

Artist: Jizzy Pearl (Frontman of 'Love/Hate featuring Jizzy Pearl')

Date of Recievement: 7th March 2002

+ additions from an interview at Rock City, Nottingham April 6th 2002

1. When you first formed 'Love/Hate' - what were the reasons behind the name?

IT WAS JUST A SONG WE HAD--NO REASON. IT WAS A BETTER NAME THAN OUR PREVIOUS ONE "DATACLAN."

2. Who were and who are your main influences as a performer?

LED ZEPPELIN, THE WHO, JANE'S ADDICTION, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

3. What are your favourite recollections of the original line-up of the band?

THERE WERE A MILLION COOL RECOLLECTIONS...AND A MILLION SHITTY RECOLLECTIONS.

GETTING THE FIRST SONY RECORD DEAL, OPENING UP FOR AC/DC, HEARING YOUR SONG ON THE RADIO FOR THE FIRST TIME...TOO MANY TO COUNT.

4. Who did you tour with and who did you hang out with - what did you get up to for a laugh?

AC/DC, DIO, OZZY, SKID ROW---HUNG OUT WITH SOME AND WERE BANNED FROM HANGING OUT WITH OTHERS.

5a. What were your favourite gigs and why?

ARENAS WITH AC/DC, FIRST MARQUEE GIG, BARROWLANDS IN SCOTLAND, FIRST RATT SHOW IN L.A.---ALL THESE GIGS WERE A CHALLENGE MET AND AN ACHEIVEMENT.NO ONE THOUGHT WE WOULD AMOUNT TO SH*T AND WE PROVED THEM WRONG.

b. Glenn: How has the UK Tour been for you?

Jizzy: It's been great - it's a very short thing and I'm just happy to be here and that's what it's all about. Me, being able to come over here and play for fans, playing music people dig and that's. I mean you saw it tonight (at Rock City, Nottingham) -people dug it - that's what makes me happy. Johnny Love couldn't make the tour - he wasn't allowed.

6. What are your favourite Love/Hate songs and why?

BLACKOUT IN THE RED ROOM, SPINNING WHEEL---THEY STILL ROCK ME SO MANY YEARS LATER.

7. Why did the band kind of break up somewhat?

THE BAND QUIT PLAYING BECAUSE WE COULDN'T SUPPORT OURSELVES ANYMORE DOING MUSIC. THE OTHER GUYS DO REGULAR JOBS AND DON'T PLAY.MOST BANDS GIVE IT UP AFTER THEIR FIRST ALBUM...WE SURVIVED LONGER THAN MOST.

8. What was it like working with The 'LA Guns' - favourite recollections of
your time with them? with regard to the album/tour etc?

IT WAS GREAT---TRACII AND I WROTE SOME GREAT SONGS AND HAD MUCH TOUR FUN. L.A GUNS IS A FUN BAND TO BE IN.

9. What about your time in Ratt - what was that like ?

WAS...OR IS? MORE PROFESSIONAL, MORE PRESSURE BUT STILL WAY BETTER THAN WORKING A DAY JOB. IT'S ALL GOOD.

10. What are the original members of Love/Hate up to and are you still in contact with them?

SKID DESIGNS WEBSITES, JOEY WORKS FOR A GOVERNMENT DEFENSE COMPANY. JON....DON'T KNOW WHAT HE DOES...DON'T REALLY CARE. I DON'T HAVE MUCH CONTACT WITH THE OTHER GUYS ANYMORE BECAUSE I TOUR AS A MUSICIAN AND THEY ARE RETIRED. THEY HAVE BIRTHDAY PARTIES FOR THEIR KIDS AND I STILL HANG OUT IN BARS.

11. Are you gonna keep the Love/Hate featuring Jizzy Pearl going for a long time or is it a temporary arrangement - also - will it keep to the same line-up?

I WOULD LIKE TO WORK YEAR ROUND PLAYING MUSIC...IF I CAN WORK WITH L/H IN THE FUTURE THEN I WILL.

12. How did you go about assembling the members of 'Love/Hate featuring
Jizzy Pearl' and how did you all meet?

ROBBIE PLAYS FOR RATT, he's the bass player and I know Keri the guitar player. KERI PLAYED FOR RATT, DAVE WAS MY LOVE/HATE DRUMMER 2 YEARS AGO. Dave is somebody that I've been playing with - doing demos with for a while.

The original guys have retired and don't play anymore so I just got my friends to come out and play with me.

13. What were the main reasons through keeping the Love/Hate name - is it for established name reasons?

I USE THE NAME BECAUSE I PUT IN MY TIME, 13 YEARS WITH THE BAND AND SINCE NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN PLAYING ANYMORE I FIGURED IT WAS OK.

14. How did you hook up with Gilby (Clarke) for the UK Tour?

GILBY IS A FRIEND--- HE ASKED ME IF I WANTED TO GO.

15. Will you be coming back to the UK in the future depending on the crowd
reception and financial aspect?

YOU HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD--I WOULD LOVE TO COME BACK IF IT IS AT ALL FEASIBLE. We are working on it.

16. What were you most looking forward to on the U.K. Tour?

BOOZE AND BROADS.

17. Were there any plans to come previously - and if so - why did it not take place?

2 YEARS AGO I WAS GOING TO COME BUT I HAD A CHEESY BOOKING AGENT WHO LIED TO ME FOR 4 MONTHS. IN THE END HE COULDN'T COME UP WITH THE DATES.

b. Where else in the world will you be touching - anywhere you haven't been
before?

JUST THE U.K.

18. Tell me all about the book -

I GOT MORE CRICKETS THAN FRIENDS---GO TO JIZZYPEARL.COM FOR DETAILS---SHORT STORIES, VERY BRITISH HUMOUR--QUITE FUNNY like Monty Python, Fawlty Towers. When I say that it's British humour - I'm meaning that in America they have a different kind. But I have that same British sense of humour - e.g. what I think is funny. If we were in Germany it'd be like (puts on a German accent) -'This book is not funny' with that face, 'I don't understand'.

I hope people dig it - I've sold a bunch of books on this tour. I'm not out to be like Stephen King - I'm just doing it for myself - to express myself and that's what it's all about.

What can we expect of it ?

YOU CAN EXPECT TO LAUGH YOUR ASS OFF---I WILL BE SELLING THEM AT ALL THE SHOWS....AND SIGNING THEM AFTERWARD.

Glenn: What influenced you to write your book?

Jizzy: Vokowsky - the Author from America. His work influenced me. People were telling me to write. I started writing stories on the internet for fun - to amuse myself.

Then I thought, 'Why don't I write a book?' and once you get over the hurdle of thinking you're some big f*ckin' author, it don't mean sh*t. Anybody can be an author. All you gotta do is like, make a book - there it is.

c. What was the inspiration behind it and the title/cover?

I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A WRITER BUT NEVER HAD THE BALLS TO ACTUALLY DO IT---THE COVER IS ME HANGING OFF THE HOLLYWOOD SIGN.

d. What has the reception of it been like so far?

SOLD A LOT, HAVE MANY STALKERS, IT'S ALL GOOD.

e. Are there plans to find a U.K. Publisher - depending on sales on the U.K. tour?

LOOKING FOR A PUBLISHER WITH A LITTLE COURAGE.

f. Is there a follow up planned? - if so, when?

NEW BOOK " ANGST FOR THE MEMORIES" TO BE RELEASED MAY 15TH 2002. I am a starving author which is typical.

19. What are you working on musically - what are your future plans?

MY FUTURE PLANS ARE TO TRY TO KEEP A ROOF OVER MY HEAD---THE AGONY AND THE EXTASY.

I have a lot of demos and I'm shopping it to European labels trying to get a deal so I can come over here and legitimise doing more touring. I don't wanna just play the old music. Well you heard the new music - I'm all about new music - that's what it's all really about. The catalogue is Rad(iant) - the catalogue is what I'm proud of but I can't give out songs I just wrote. I can't just do ten year old songs either.

Glenn: The fans will want to hear 'Black Out in the Red Room' and such like, no doubt.

Jizzy: They're gonna hear 'em but to legitimise it I have to write new songs as well.

Glenn: Have you got any particulsr labels in mind that you'd want to sign with?

Jizzy: Well, one's that have money. I don't wanna sign with anyone without money. I wanna make a record that's gonna cost a little bit of money and someone's gonna put a little money into - that's all. I don't wanna come out here - I don't wanna take the money for vanity. I don't want some vanity pressing so I can take the money and run. I wanna get back to a record company/label relationship and re-establish Love/Hate thing.

20. Are there plans for a future live album?

PERHAPS A RATT LIVE DVD THIS SUMMER..

21. What hobbies do you have ?

DRINKING, FITNESS, GOOD BOOKS, WRITING.

22. Do you have any cool tour stories and groupie stories?

A MILLION - but I don't wanna talk about Road Stories, only because it's cheesy. I don't wanna be Gene Simmons talking about all my conquests because it's crap. I mean, it's just part of the thing - part of the Rock 'n' Roll Theatre. It's all fun and games.

23. Who else would you like to work with that you haven't already and why?

I WANT TO LICK MADONNA'S ASS.

24. What would say are your favourite artists and albums that made you
decide on a career in the music biz ?

ZEP, BLACK SABBATH, THE WHO...TOO MANY TO COUNT

Glenn: How did you come up with the name 'Jizzy Pearl'?

Jizzy: My real name is 'Jim' and I named 'Skid' - his real name is Chris Rose - so he became Skid Rose - dumb !! and Jim became Jizz and I put the Pearl on the end of that for dramatic effect.

Glenn: As in 'Pearl Necklance' !! as in B*****b

Jizzy: Exactly - if we can be quite frank - that's exactly what it was. You know - the lowest common denominator (laughing).

Thanks for those honest words Jizzy - looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Jizzy: I wanna thank everybody and hope they go to jizzypearl.com - this is my website.
